OPEN MONTHLY SUPPORT EVENINGS
Second Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Also known as SUPPORT AND SHARE NIGHT these monthly support evenings are open to all bereaved families. The evening includes a guest speaker and the opportunity to share with other bereaved individuals in small groups who have had a similar loss. The small groups are facilitated by trained bereaved volunteers who have participated in a recognized grief facilitating course through BFO - Quality Assurance Program.
OPEN AFTERNOON SUPPORT GROUPS Last Tuesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. These afternoon support groups are for bereaved adults and families who are struggling with the loss of a loved one. Afternoon support groups include a video presentation on coping with loss and the opportunity to share with other bereaved in a general group discussion format.
CLOSED CHILDREN SUPPORT GROUPS
For children up to age 12 who have lost a special person. Group consists of seven consecutive weekly sessions led by a registered social worker and trained facilitators. Group is designed to support and encourage the unique needs of young grieving children. Through discussion, play and art activities children are able to understand their experiences of death and loss, and connect with each other in a supportive, safe and nurturing environment. Registrations for these groups are taken on an ongoing basis and groups are offered year round.
PARENT SUPPORT GROUP
These information sessions are held in conjuction with the children's group and include information on children's grief and education on how to help a child cope with loss.
CLOSED ADULT SUPPORT GROUPSThese small groups of 6 to 10 bereaved meet for six consecutive weekly sessions and are led by trained facilitators who themselves have experienced a similar loss. Program is structured and designed to provide the bereaved with the opportunity to learn about the grief process, share their experience with other bereaved who have had a similar loss, and develop the necessary tools to assist inthe choice to grow. Groups are delivered on an ongoing basis. Registrations are available by calling or visitnig the Centre. Groups are available for the following losses: Loss of a Child, Loss of a Parent/Sibling, Loss of a Spouse/Partner, and Loss of a Loved one to Suicide.
TEEN WORKSHOPSHeld Spring and Fall or as needed. Consists of a one-day workshop led by professionals and trained facilitators. These workshops are designed to support adolescents ages 12 to 19 who have experience the death of someone special. Workshops are designed to help teens explore the difficult aspects of change after a loved one dies. Registrations are accepted on an ongoing basis.
PRESENTATIONS/OUTREACHBFO can provide professional speakers for your community, workplace or service group on topics relating to grief and bereavement. Available to surrounding communities. For more information, please contact the Centre.
SERVICES
TELEPHONE HELP LINECalls are taken daily from 9:00 AM. - 4:00 PM. It's an opportunity for the bereaved person to receive immediate support, share their concerns and obtain information on healthy grieving. After hours messages are retrieved and returned daily.
BEREAVEMENT PACKAGESIndividually prepared resource packages are available for the bereaved. Agencies/caregivers working with the bereaved can also request bereavement packages by calling the centre. Packages may be requested by phone, fax and in person.
ONE ON ONE SUPPORTProvides a bridge for the newly bereaved person who may not be ready to participate in support groups. It's an opportunity for the newly bereaved to receive support and comfort, with a bereaved facilitator that can share their experience, offer support and coping suggestions.
TELEPHONE SUPPORTQuarterly telephone support calls are provided to all bereaved currently receiving support from Bereaved Families. BFO facilitators will contact the bereaved, as per their request, to discuss concerns and offer supportive insight and information regarding upcoming groups or workshops.
LENDING LIBRARYOpen from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM and has an extensive collection of books, pamphlets, articles and videos on a variety of subjects on grief issues. The library sections included: General, Spousal, Sibling and Parent Loss, Loss of a Child, Loss of a Loved One to Suicide, a large section on Children/Teen Grief and French books.
NEWSLETTERQuarterly publication which is distributed to bereaved families who contact or are referred to Bereaved Families for support and community service agencies working with the bereaved. The circular contains supportive articles, highlights of upcoming programs/services, workshops/groups and other relevant information on grief and healing.

FACILITATOR TRAINING
Bereavement Facilitator Training is offered every two years (mandatory for all volunteers leading our groups at BFO) and for interested community professionals at a minimal cost.
The next Bereavement Facilitator Training will be held in the Spring 2013. Please contact the office to register.
BEREAVEMENT CENTRE
Open from 9:00 AM 4:00 PM Monday through Friday and no appointment is necessary to visit the Bereavement Centre for support, resources and information on healthy grieving.
